► In the beginning, there was the park. After the discovery of a thermal saltwater spring in the mid-19th century, the Prussian king commissioned his famous head gardener, P. J. Lenné, to create a picturesque park on the green Westphalian meadow. Over the coming decades, the burgeoning spa town grew up around the spa park. The influx of visitors was great, and the 26-hectare spa park soon became too small. Over the course of history, four additional landscape gardens were therefore created in Bad Oeynhausen, each with its own unique character and distinctive charm.
